The Foreign Ministry here today received final confirmation of earlier reports that U.S. Senator J.W. Fulbright, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will arrive here tomorrow afternoon. He will come to this city from Jordan, via the Mandelbaum Gate.
Senator Fulbright’s exact schedule here, however, is still uncertain, in spite of several cables exchanged between officials here and in Washington. Israeli officials, desiring to be as cooperative as possible, despite the Arkansas Democrat’s recent pro-Arab attitude in Washington, have scheduled several alternative programs for the Senator’ visit, leaving the final choice of program to the visitor.
Sen. Fulbright opposed the recent picketing of the United Arab Republic freighter Cleopatra in the New York harbor. He also took a stand in the Senate against an amendment the Mutual Security bill. That amendment in effect, expressed opposition to the UAR’s blockade of the Suez Canal against Israeli shipping and goods.
