“The understandings reached between the executive of the Jewish Agency and the Government of Israel as a result of the recent Joint meetings, may open a new chapter in the relations between Israel and the Zionist movement provided these understandings are implemented in the spirit in which they were conceived, ” declared Dr. Emanuel Neumann, president of the World Confederation of General Zionists and member of the Jewish Agency executive, upon his return from Israel and Europe.

“Equally encouraging, ” Dr. Neumann said, “was the positive outcome of the thoroughgoing discussion on the same subject within the leadership of Mapai, which registered a strongly affirmative attitude toward the World Zionist Organization. I have also found in Israel a greater awareness than heretofore of the need for strengthening American Zionism, in view of its pivotal position within the World movement.

“It was also encouraging to note the degree to which the Israel Government has been modifying its economic policies in the direction long advocated by proponents of free enterprise and private initiative, though much still remains to be done in order to attract private investment capital from abroad on a scale commensurate with the need, ” Dr. Neumann declared.
