Simultaneous with the ceremonies in Jerusalem, the dedication of the $25,000,000 Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center was marked in New York today by a special celebration at Hadassah House in which 150 leaders and active members of the organization participated.
Binyamin Eliav, Consul General of Israel in New York, spoke in behalf of the Government of Israel. Mrs. Samuel W. Halprin, Mrs. David de Sola Pool and Mrs. Robert Szold, past presidents of Hadassah, reviewed the history of the organization’s medical program, culminating in the new Medical Center. In addressing the meeting, Mr. Eliav said:
“To the Jews of Palestine — now the citizens of Israel — Hadassah is the visible evidence of American support, scientific and technological achievement and the will of dedicated Zionists to make these available to Israel. The objective of Hadassah has been to serve in the fullest sense of the word. Not service for one people, but for all in the area: Christians, Moslems and Jews have been the beneficiaries of Hadassah’s imaginative and skillfully-administered health program.” Mr. Eliav also emphasized that “Hadassah has helped to make Israel the most medically advanced country in the Middle East.”
