The Union of Italian Jewish Communities has called upon Jewish communal leaders throughout the country to take measures to safeguard records, libraries and archives essential to the proper documentation of Italian Jewish life, it was reported here today.

In a memorandum to the Jewish community leaders, the Union offered to accept for safekeeping the libraries and archives of those communities unable to do so on their own. Stressing the need to keep such records available to scholars wishing to consult them, the Union noted that the transfer of communal records and libraries to a central location would contribute toward the creation of a National Italian Jewish Archive and Library which would benefit scholars throughout the world.
