The harvest of Israel’s bumper cotton crop, which will begin next week, is expected to satisfy the entire demand for local consumption for the first time since cotton was experimentally cultivated eight years ago, Ministry of Agriculture sources predicted today.

A total of 20,000 acres of cotton has been planted throughout the country this year. Next year’s crop is expected to exceed the 1960 quota and supply enough cotton for the country’s textile export market in addition to satisfying the local demand, the sources indicated. Special arrangements have been made to assure an adequate supply of cotton pickers for the harvest.
