Former Prime Minister Moshe Sharett, launching the Israel United Appeal campaign at a banquet here, told the 1, 000 guests that “to a Jew no privilege can be higher than assisting Israel.”

Mr. Sharett, who has been on a lightning tour of the main South African Jewish communities since his arrival last week, received a glowing welcome from former Justice Leopold Greenberg, honorary president of the Israel United Appeal, who presided at the dinner. Others who greeted Mr. Sharett included Edel Horwitz, chairman of the South African Zionist Federation, Chief Rabbi Louis Rabinowitz, Harry Trope, IUA chairman, and Katriel Salmon, Israel Minister to South Africa.
