Koca Popovic, Foreign Minister of Yugoslavia, said here yesterday, while on a visit to Rome, that his Government would be willing to mediate the disputes between the Arab states and Israel “if both sides requested such mediation.”

He made the statement in reply to a question as to whether Yugoslavia would undertake such mediation. “Mediators can act effectively only when both sides are ready to reach agreement without an intermediary,” he added.

Important problems concerning Israel-Italian trade were believed to have been discussed here between the two governments today. The talks took place at a conference held between Italy’s Foreign Trade Minister, Luigi Martinelli, and Israel’s charge d’affaires in the Rome Embassy, Hagay Dikan.
