Governor of Casablanca Regrets Arrests of Jews; Meets Jewish Leaders

The Governor of Casablanca met with members of the Jewish Council here for a discussion of the situation of the Jewish community, following recent events in Morocco,

The Governor, Commandant Medboh, expressed regret, during the two-hour meeting, over the arrests of Moroccan Jews.It was also learned that the Jewish Council of Fez met with the Governor of Fez to register a protest against the arrest of 20 Jews during their walk to the synagogue last Saturday.

A minor demonstration, meanwhile, took place on Boulevard Mohamed V in Casablanca, in front of a shop window which displayed a “Travel by El Al” advertisement. The demonstration followed publication of a demand in a newspaper of the political opposition that the authorities take all necessary steps to ensure the immediate removal of the advertisement.

In accordance with a decision of the Moroccan Ministry of Information, scenes depicting the extermination of Jews were eliminated today from a film, “Mein Kampf,” now being shown in a Casablanca theater. The showing of the scenes had led to numerous incidents between Jews and Moslems.
