Tu B’shvat Celebrated by Thousands of Schoolchildren in Israel

Thousands of Israeli schoolchildren, their spirits undamped by a steady drizzle, took part in country-wide ceremonies yesterday marking Tu B’Shvat.The youngsters spent the holiday from school in digging and tree planting under the guidance of teachers, gardeners or their own leaders.

The holiday also was marked by registrations at Israel’s 29 agricultural schools and-in indoor celebrations at kindergartens whose pupils were considered too young to be exposed to the steady rain. A schedule of formal plantings included one sponsored by the Ramat Gan municipality at which President and Mrs.Ben-Zvi were to have participated It was canceled because of rain.
