New attempts have been made to organize and coordinate the activities of various fascist movements in Europe and other parts of the world, Sir Barnett Janner, Board president and John Dight, chairman of its defense committee, told the Board of Deputies of British Jews yesterday.
Mr. Dight warned that the forthcoming Eichmann trial in Jerusalem might be used by fascist elements for political capital on the lines already published in their press–that if atrocities had taken place, it had not been in Germany, but in Israel against the Arabs.
There may be organized attempts, he said, to deface synagogues and Jewish communal buildings in Britain. He denied that the Jewish Defense Committee was preparing to safeguard communal buildings and would even attempt to apprehend would-be culprits.
When the Board discussed the worsening situation of the Jews in Morocco, many members voiced demands for the utmost help to Moroccan Jews in any possible form and level. One member, who had just returned from Morocco, told the Board that the Moroccan authorities were now directing heavy pressures against Jews in the professions to surrender their foreign nationalities–mainly French, Italian and Spanish–and to adopt Moroccan nationality, only with the view to preventing them from obtaining exit visas. Those refusing to do so–physicians for example–were threatened with deprivation of their right to practice their professions.
