Israel Maisels, a prominent barrister and a leader of the South African Jewish community, will become a Judge of the High Court of Southern Rhodesia, effective next May, it was announced here today. Mr. Maisels, 55, is a former president of the South African Board of Jewish Deputies and is currently a vice-president.
(The Guardian of Manchester, commenting today on the appointment, described Mr. Maisels as a strong foe of apartheid who has championed the rights of the African in South Africa.)
