American poet Robert Frost left tonight for the Hebrew University of Jerusalem to serve as the first lecturer in American Culture and Civilization in the Chair established by Samuel Paley of Philadelphia, Pa.

At a luncheon tendered to Mr. Frost today by the American Friends of the Hebrew University prior to his departure, Daniel G. Ross, chairman of the board, expressed the organization’s profound satisfaction over Mr. Frost’s visit to the Hebrew University. “We, who are dedicated to a program of cultural interaction between our American civilization and the flowering new civilization of Israel, see in Robert Frost’s visit to the Hebrew University the concrete expression of this idea, ” he said. “We also see in it a reflection of Israel’s quest for excellence of mind and spirit.”

President Kennedy, in a message to Mr. Frost, said: “I am delighted to learn of your recent appointment as the first Samuel Paley lecturer in American Culture and Civilization at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I know that your visit will provide the people of Israel with a rare cultural opportunity. I wish you all success in your journey. “
