Permission for the election of a new Chief Rabbi of Turkey was granted to the Turkish Jewish community today by the Government. The post has been vacant since the death, last November, of Chief Rabbi Raphael Saban.

According to a letter from the Governor of Istanbul to the Grand Rabbinate here, the authorization for the election has been decided by the Ministry of the Interior. Jews in every community in Turkey will now elect delegates who, in turn, will select the new Chief Rabbi from a list of candidates.
