An Israeli scientist will be one of 20 experts presenting specialized reports on world energy needs and new sources at the ten-day United Nations Conference on New Sources of Energy which will open in Rome on August 21, the UN reported today.
However, Israel will not be represented among the specialists from 16 countries chosen to serve as chairmen of technical sessions despite the fact that one of the chairmen will be from the United Arab Republic. The UN announcement said that the chairmen would serve as individual specialists rather than as representatives of their governments.
The conference will have 20 sessions dealing with practical ways of utilizing the energy of the wind, the sun and the earth’s underground heat particularly to help countries lacking conventional energy sources.
Dr. Harry Tabor, director of the National Physical Laboratory of Israel, will be one of 20 rapporteur reporting on various projects which will form the basis of discussion at the conference. He will present a report on the use of solar energy for mechanical power and electricity production by means of piston engines and turbines.
Dr. Tabor will deal specifically with the use of solar energy for cooling purposes. The announcement said Dr. Tabor’s report will cover two areas; food preservation by refrigeration, and cooling and dehumidification. The report cites data from papers by specialists from Israel and a number of other countries.
