Twenty-two American and Canadian young men and women will leave for Israel tomorrow to participate in the American Work-Study Program sponsored by the Student Zionist Organization under the auspices of the Youth Department of American Zionist Council and the Jewish Agency for Israel. This makes the fourth AWSPI group to leave for Israel in the past two years, bringing the total participants in this educational program to 115.
The group will be housed in the agricultural settlement, Kibbutz Maabarot, where they will be engaged in a half-day work and half-day intensive Hebrew study program. The program provides an opportunity for these youths to spend six months or longer in Israel, gaining an intimate knowledge of the country, its people and its language. Following the six-month kibbutz period, the group participants may return home, or stay to work in a job of their choice.
