A grant of offshore drilling rights to the Canadian prospecting company, Sancana, by the Israel Petroleum Council was announced last night by Menahem Bader, director-general of the Israel Development Ministry.

The Canadian firm has undertaken to investigate drilling possibilities along Israel’s Mediterranean continental shelf. Part of the seabed is composed of limestone similar to the composition of some of Canada’s largest oil fields.
