A resolution urging the United States Government to take the initiative “in calling upon the Middle East countries to get together to help abate the danger of war in the area,” was adopted here today at the 36th annual national convention of the Mizrachi Women’s Organization of America.
Declaring that such a move by the U.S. Government would “be a magnificent expression of American leadership in the effort for peace in all parts of the world,” the resolution called upon President Kennedy to utilize the influence of the United Nations in pressing for negotiations between Israel and the Arab states for a Middle East arms control agreement.
In their appeal to President Kennedy, the more than 500 delegates expressed confidence that a United States call for Middle East arms control discussions would receive the non-partisan support of the entire country.
President Kennedy, in a message of greetings to the delegates, said: “It is heartening to learn of the devotion and sense of service which has helped to create children’s villages, homes, schools and settlement houses in Israel. You can feel proud of your contribution to the vitality, hope and progress we have seen emerge from despair.”
