The Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University announced today that 15 Toronto citizens have established scholarships at the University in honor of John Bassett, chairman and publisher of the Toronto Telegram.

The John Bassett Endowment Fund will provide annual and perpetual undergraduate scholarship in agriculture, economics or sociology and Afro-Asian studies. The gift was inspired in part by scholarships from Mr. Bassett for Israeli students which he provided in honor of Prime Minister John Diefenbaker and Lord Beaverbrook, the British newspaper magnate.
