The president of the Chevy Chase Country Club, in exclusive Chevy Chase, Maryland, today denied the club excludes Jews and Negroes from membership. He said the club has “no such policy” and that “each candidate for membership is considered as an individual.”

Club president Randall H. Hagnar issued the statement following publication of an article by New York Times columnist Arthur Krock that the club bars Negroes and “one ethnic group of Caucasians” from membership. Mr. Hagnar said that while the club has no Negro members there are “several Jewish members.”
