For the first time since the establishment of the United Nations, in 1946, the ancient Hebrew liturgy, “El Mohle Rachamim,” will be chanted within the portals of the United Nations headquarters on February 12, Lincoln’s birthday, during a memorial service sponsored by the Zionist Organization of America in tribute to the late Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold. The prayer will be recited by Cantor Robert H. Segal of Congregation Bnai Jeshurun of New York City.

The memorial service which will precede a United Nations Briefing Conference will highlight the presentation of a plaque commemorating the work of the late Secretary General for the cause of world peace. The presentation will be made by Max Bressler, president of the ZOA.
