The Grand Service Cross, one of the highest awards of the West German Federal Republic, was conferred today on Dr. Heinrich Georg Van Damm, secretary-general of the Central Council of Jews in Germany. In a citation accompanying the award, President Heinrich Luebke praised Dr. Van Damm’s efforts in the reconstruction of Jewish life in Germany.
