American People Told by Harman of Israel’s Interest in Common Market

Israel continues to seek a special economic relationship with the European Common Market, Israeli Ambassador Avraham Harman said here today.

Replying to a question from Congressman Emanuel Celler on a television interview, Mr. Harman pointed out that the Common Market currently affects two-thirds of Israel’s exports and many of its imports so that some arrangement with the Common Market is necessary to preserve its present flow of trade.

The Ambassador labeled the advent of the Common Market “one of the most significant events in international life in cur generation,” On another subject, Mr. Harman said that Israel was delighted to welcome the recent visit of Edward Kennedy, the President’s younger brother, “as a symbol of the continuing friendship between Israel and the United States.”
