Mrs. Golda Meir, Israel’s Foreign Minister, today received James P. Grant, deputy assistant Secretary of State of the United States, who is in charge of Near Eastern and South Asian affairs. He is here for a three-day visit to end tomorrow, and his talks with Israeli officials were described as “get acquainted” sessions.
Among others, Mr. Grant has met with Minister of Education Abba Eban and with Dr. Eliahu Elath, president of the Hebrew University. Last night, a number of Israeli officials attended a dinner honoring Mr. Grant, given by U.S. Ambassador Walworth Barbour. Among those attending the dinner were Minister of Agriculture Moshe Dayan, and Theodor Kollek, director of the Prime Minister’s office.
Dr. Joseph E. Johnson, special Middle East representative for the United Nations Palestine Conciliation Commission, who is on his second tour of Middle East capitals in an effort to help ease Arab-Israeli disagreements about possible solutions for the Arab refugee problem, conferred for the second time with Israel’s Foreign Minister here today.
