Wolfsons Increase Gifts in Israel, Announce Investment in Housing

A contribution of $1,000,000 to the Weizmann Institute of Science at Rehovot by the Edith and Isaac Wolfson Charitable Trust will permit important expansion of the cancer and allied biological research programs at the Institute, it was announced here. The gift was disclosed at Rehovot, during a visit to the Institute by Sir Isaac and Lady Wolfson.

The new development and research fund will be used to extend the Institute’s present facilities for investigating the mechanism of carcinogenesis and other aspects or cancer, and to help round out the Institute’s complex of life science buildings and laboratories.

The gift to the Weizmann Institute brought to 6,000,000 pounds ($2,000,000) the total of gifts announced by the Wolfsons during their current visit to Israel. Sir Isaac was also reported to have agreed in principle to investment by the Wolfson-Clore-Mayer Investment Corporation of 1,000,000 pounds sterling ($2,800,000) in a housing development in the Bsor area of the Negev. One of the Wolfson benefactions announced during their current visit was a contribution of a million Israeli pounds ($333,000) for a secondary school scholarship fund.
