An agreement under which France will help Algerian Jews settle in Israel if they so desire is about to be signed between France and Israel, it was reported here today.

The projected agreement will cover those Algerian Jews who are currently eligible for assistance in settling in France. The agreement would give them the same French aid if they decided to settle in Israel.

Housing Ministry officials meanwhile announced at a press conference here today that a major effort would have to be made to boost construction of housing for new immigrants. To meet that objective and to cope with a shortage of builders and construction workers, they said, all non-essential construction will be halted. The officials offered a projection that the Israeli population would increase during this year by 150,000.
