Moroccan Minister Says Jews Cannot Be Regarded As Moroccans

The Minister for Islamic Affairs here was reported by the opposition press today to have stated that Jews in this country cannot be regarded as Moroccans but only as “proteges” of the Government.

At the same time, the newspaper Allal al Fassi said that no foreigner can be a Moroccan unless he embraced Islam. The opposition press declared itself unwilling to accept the views of Allal al Fassi, and termed the stand of the Minister for Islamic Affairs “anti-Jewish and racist.”

Aodelkader Layachi, Pasha of Mogador and Governor of Casablanca, today received the leaders of the new Jewish Committee, headed by Levi Ensoussa. He expressed his wishes for the success of the Jewish Committee’s work.
