Dr. Leon Benzaquen, honorary president of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Morocco, and David Amar, president of the Federation, today sharply protested the recent statement by Allal El Fassi, president of the Istiqlal party and Minister of State in charge of Islamic Affairs, that the Jews in Morocco were not regarded as Moroccans but as residents enjoying Moroccan protection.

Writing in the Jewish communal organ “Voice of the Community, ” Dr. Benzaquen, a former Moroccan Cabinet Minister, said that El Fassi’s statement had disturbed the Moroccan Jewish population.
