Rent Increases Go into Effect in Israel; Some Up to 140 Per Cent

Rent increases, decreed by the Government last summer, went into effect here today, ranging up to a rise of 140 percent on some apartments owned by private persons.

The higher rents on government-owned property will be in effect only until next April 1, according to the decree. The increases range from 10 pounds to 19 pounds ($3.33 to $6.33), depending on the size of the flats.
