Prof. Katzir Inducted As President of Israel’s Academy of Science

Professor Aharon Katzir (Katchalsky), 49-year-old chemist, was inducted today as president of the National Academy of Sciences. He succeeded the Academy’s first president, Dr. Martin Buber, who retired several months ago for reasons of health. The Academy represents Israel in the International Union of Science Organizations.

Professor Katzir, who came to Palestine from Lodz, Poland, as a 12-year-old boy, studied at Hebrew University. In addition to his science degree he also holds a Ph. D, He has lectured at universities in Holland and the United States. He was installed by President Ben-Zvi in the presence of Education Minister Abba Eban, Prof. Yoel Racah, Hebrew University rector, scientists and academicians.
