The first United States Scientific Attache to be stationed at the American Embassy in Israel was honored today at a luncheon at the Plaza Hotel here. Dr. Robert T. Webber, eminent physicist just appointed to the newly created post, was the guest of honor of the American Commune for the Weizmann Institute of Science.
Mr. Abraham Feinberg, president of the American Committee, in hailing Dr. Webberrs appointment, said it was “a recognition of the remarkable development of science in the State of Israel and a further strengthening of that country’s scientific relations with the United States.”
He pointed out that there were less than 10 American scientific attaches serving overseas, in American embassies accredited to the most highly industrialized nations, and it was gratifying to know that the U. S. Government had singled out Israel to receive a scientific attache. “Israel’s stature as a nation devoted to scientific research has grown tremendously over the past ten years, ” he said.
