Britain Appoints First Woman Ambassador As Envoy to Israel

Britain yesterday appointed as its new Ambassador to Israel Miss Barbara Salt, 58. Miss Salt, who becomes England’s first woman ambassador, served as counselor at the British Embassy in Tel Aviv from 1957 to 1960. She succeeds Ambassador Patrick Hancock.

Miss Salt, who has most recently served as British representative on the United Nations Economic and Social Council, has held British diplomatic posts in Washington and Moscow.
