Hebrew Teachers College Doubles Enrollment; Raises $500, 000

Student enrollment at the Hebrew Teachers College, the only institution of higher learning in New England authorized to confer graduate and postgraduate degrees in Jewish education and Hebrew literature, has more than doubled, including now more than 850 students, it was reported here at a dinner for the college’s development fund program.

Abraham Goodman, general chairman of a fund drive, reported that $503, 400 has been raised toward the $700, 000 campaign goal. Benjamin Ulin, president of the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston, with which the college is affiliated as a constituent agency, paid tribute to Leo Flax, president of the college; Dr. Eisig Silberschlag, dean, and past presidents who served the institution since it was founded in 1921.
