Former President Harry S. Truman was presented here last night with a special award, the Israel War of Independence Standard, by order of Israel Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. The Award had previously been given only to Israel army units and settlements which participated in the Israel War of Independence. Mr. Truman received the award at an Israel Commendation Dinner here sponsored by the State of Israel Bond Organization and attended by 800 persons.
Others honored with Medalion of Valor awards at the dinner were Jack Benny, General Omar N. Bradley, Van Cliburn, Dr. Salo W. Baron of Columbia University, Sol Hurok, Brigadier General S.L.A. Marshall, Dr. Nelson Glueck, president of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, William L. McFetridge, vice-president of the AFL-CIO, Bruce McDaniel, economist, Robert St. John and Eric Johnston, president of the Motion Picture Association of America.
