Dr. Fritz Bauer, Hesse chief public prosecutor, announced today the arrest in Barcelona a few days ago of Reinhold Paul Vorberg on charges of responsibility in the mass murder of 100,000 persons in the Nazi euthanasia program.

Dr. Bauer said that Vorberg, who was a department head in Hitler’s Chancellery, was responsible for planning and preparing the murders of mentally affected victims as well as sick concentration camp inmates.

He said Vorberg falsified his name, age and birthplace after the Hitler regime collapsed, and disappeared in south Germany. From 1952 until a year ago he worked for a firm in Bonn. Last year, apparently as a result of a warning, Vorberg fled from Germany. He was arrested in Barcelona on a warrant issued by the Frankfurt court.
