The Munich public prosecutor’s office issued today a warrant for the arrest of Karl Oberg, former SS commander in occupied France who was recently released by that country after 18 years in prison and turned over to West German authorities.
Oberg was charged in the warrant with murder in connection with the liquidation on June 30, 1934 of elements in the SS which Hitler believed were forming an opposition to his authority. It was indicated that it was doubtful whether the warrant would be carried out because of Oberg’s reported poor health, As SS commander in France, Oberg was largely responsible for the deportation of Jews to Eastern Europe.
