The Joseph Shapiro Teachers Institute, a professional school for the specialized training of Hebrew day school teachers, was formally opened here today under the auspices of Torah Umesorah, the National Society for Hebrew Day Schools. Admission to the school is open to senior students in major rabbinical seminaries who will be trained to fill vacant positions in Hebrew day schools throughout the country where a shortage of teachers currently exists.
Named for the late treasurer of Torah Umesorah, the Institute offers a two-year program in methods of teaching Hebrew day school subjects and student teaching under the supervision of educators experienced in the field, A Hebrew day school teaching license will be granted by the National Licensing Board of Torah Umesorah upon completion of the course.
