Eric Maier, Former Official of World Jewish Congress, Dies in New York

Dr. Eric Maier, 71, former official of the World Jewish Congress, died here yesterday after along illness. He served with the World Jewish Congress in New York from 1945 to 1948. after several years in Europe, during which he had been employed by the United States Department of Censorship and Department of War.

Dr. Maier had arrived in the United States from Austria in 1938, escaping the fate that eventually engulfed many of his family. On his return to Europe as a U. S. official, Dr. Maier managed to devote a considerable amount of time and effort to alleviating the plight of the DP’s in the various camps, and acted as a WJC volunteer, providing medicines, clothing, books, and other materials. Dr. Maier also helped many of the survivors to find relatives from whom they had been separated.
