More than 200 American companies started operations in Israel in the decade since the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce was organized, Nathan Strauss III, president, declared tonight at the 10th anniversary dinner of the Chamber.
Reporting that two-way trade between the United States and Israel had passed the $215,000,000 mark, he said the American business operations have been in the form of branches, subsidiaries or licensing agreements with companies in Israel.
Gottlieb Hammer, president of the American-Israeli Shipping Company, who was dinner chairman, called the meeting to a minute of silence to honor the memory of President Ben-Zvi. Festive parts of the dinner program, to mark the chamber’s tenth anniversary, were omitted and presentation of an honorary membership to Israel Ambassador Avraham Harman was postponed.
