George Lincoln Rockwell, leader of the American Nazi Party, may court arrest and seek national publicity tomorrow by attempting to stage an illegal counter-demonstration at the Washington Monument, as the march on Washington assembles.
Rockwell today made known that he would attempt to speak, despite the refusal of permission by authorities. He asked his followers and anti-Negro elements to assemble early tomorrow at the monument. The Nazis are reportedly relying on the prospect of legal defense by the American Civil Liberties Union in event of arrest. Risking mass arrest, the Nazi group is mindful of television coverage, and the chance to portray themselves as “martyrs” of the anti-Negro cause.
