Dr. Nahum Goldmann urged the new West German Government today to take action on long-pending amendments to liberalize West German reparations and compensations to victims of the Nazi era. Speaking as president of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, Dr. Goldmann told the closing session of the fourth annual assembly of the European Jewish Community Services that the amendments had been pending since 1951.

Daniel Mayer, president of the League for the Rights of Man, stressed at the same session that the current relaxation of cold war tensions provided an “excellent opportunity” to act to implement United Nations positions on human rights. He referred to the fate of the Jews in Russia who are not permitted to rejoin members of their families abroad. He said that, to “hush up” violations of the UN Declaration of Human Rights, guaranteeing the right of all persons to leave their country, would be “cowardice.”
