Philanthropic leader Benjamin H. Swig, noted national Jewish leader, was elected president of the Jewish Welfare Federation of San Francisco, Marin County and the Peninsula. Mr. Swigh, who is national United Jewish Appeal chairman, was chairman of the local Federation campaigns in 1950-51. He has headed the federation’s fund-raising committee for several years.
A partial list of his principal organizational affiliations, in which he holds top level volunteer positions, includes the American Association for Jewish Education, American Friends of Hebrew University, Joint Distribution Committee, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bonds of Israel, Brandeis University, Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Jewish National Fund and Union of American Hebrew Congregations. Mr. Swig has also been identified with a score of local and statewide community and educational efforts and projects. Some 2, 000 civic, philanthropic, political and religious leaders honored him recently in this city on his 70th birthday.
