The Canadian Jewish Congress issued an appeal to its constituents today to write or wire to their representatives in Parliament and to the Canadian Minister of Justice for legal safeguards against the distribution of anti-Jewish and anti-Negro material.
The appeal was sent to 700 presidents and secretaries of Jewish men’s and women’s organizations in the Toronto area and also to communities throughout the Ontario region. Last week the CJC sent a telegram to Justice Minister Guy Favreau stressing that recent distributions of such hate material in Toronto "patently" incited "to genocidal actions."
The CJC asked the Minister to determine the applicability of the Criminal Code section which bars incitement to violent action. Both Minister Favreau and Postmaster General J.R. Nicholson were asked for a meeting on the problem
