The American ORT Federation announced here today the opening of a second trade school for Algerian Jewish refugees in Toulouse, where the Jewish population has increased from 3, 500 five years ago to 13,500. A school for the refugees was set up in Toulouse last year as part of an expanded job training program offered by CRT to the newcomers. Both schools have received considerable financial aid from the French Government.
The new ORT school is unusual in that, unlike most services for refugees which are aimed at family heads and other adults, the new vocational center is for teen-agers. While a building is under construction, the classes are temporarily being held in pre-fabricated structures. The first courses are training for apprentices and the first section of a projected three-year school in telecommunications. When the new building is constructed, it will also have a trade school for girls.
