Foreign Secretary R.A. Butler announced in Commons today that West Germany had agreed to pay 1,000,000 pounds ($2,800,000) to the British Government “to compensate certain British victims of Nazi persecutions.”
He said this referred to British nationals who suffered loss of liberty or damage to health, and dependents of victims of Nazism who had died. The distribution of the money would be left to the discretion of the British Government. Those who considered themselves eligible would be invited to file claims promptly, the Foreign Secretary stated.
