Arthur Smith, the chief and organizer of the Australian Nazi Party, was sentenced by the Sydney Central Court this weekend to six months’ imprisonment on charges of having been in illegal possession of explosives and detonators. An unlicensed revolver and stolen goods were also found at the Nazi Party’s headquarters in the Sydney suburb of Ashfield.
The police prosecutor told the court that Smith’s party is trying to revive Hitlerism. The Nazi leader appeared in court with four other members of his organization. All had been arrested two weeks ago when police raided their headquarters. The four others were remanded for a future trial. Outside the courtroom, a young man wearing a swastika badge was attacked by a crowd in the street.
