The Students Representative Council at Sydney University asked the editors of the student newspaper today to give as much space and prominence to anti-Nazi material as they have recently given to Australian and British neo-Nazi views.
The issue was raised by publication last week in “Honi Soit, “a student newspaper, of a full page of material about the activities and policies of the Australian National Socialist party, several of whose members were arrested recently in a police raid.
One article asserted that the Nazi party had 35 members in the university. An editorial charged that Jewish groups were attempting to prevent publication of information on Nazi policies in the student paper. Another article was an alleged interview from Arthur Smith, leader of the Nazi party, who was recently given a jail sentence for his activities. Still another item, headlined “The Great Lie of the Six Million,” appeared in the publication, written by Colin Jordan, head of the National Socialist movement in Britain.
In asking the “Honi Soit” editors to give equal prominence to refutations of the neo-Nazi views, the Student Council approved unanimously a resolution expressing opposition to all forms of discrimination, and particularly to anti-Semitism.
