Brig. Gen. Gilberto Hidalgo Oliva, a retired Air Force officer who has been prominently identified with anti-Semitic movements in this country, announced today that he had sent a telegram to President Arturo Illia, accusing “Zionism” of having maintained an armed headquarters “ready to carry out a sinister plan” for subversion.
Gen. Oliva linked his latest anti-Semitic canard to the fact that a building on Posadas Street, which had blown up last week, resulting in the death of at least 11 persons, had been owned by a Jew, named Isaac Tesler. The apartment where the explosion occurred had apparently been used as an arsenal by Castro Communist circles here, according to police. However, Oliva called a press conference today to tie the explosion to “Zionism.” Meanwhile, Federal Police Chief Nicolas Rodriguez announced that he is hunting for “left-wing terrorists” as suspects responsible for the explosion.
