A delegation of American Jewish Committee leaders left by plane today on a human relations mission to Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru.
Morris B. Abram, who heads the delegation, declared that the mission had been undertaken at the invitation of South American Jewish community leaders to help develop human relations programs which will help deal with the growing concern about the emergence of belligerent, anti-democratic factions in South America. The Committee leaders will return to New York on August 22.
Mr. Abram declared that recent reports have stressed that Argentine political leaders are gravely concerned about the aggressive public use of anti-Semitism. “A number of compelling issues, bearing particularly on the rise of anti-democratic and anti-Jewish forces, requires that we undertake this human relations mission to an area of rapidly increasing importance in world affairs,” he said.
