Construction of a monument in this city to commemorate the 6,000,000 Jews who perished in the Nazi holocaust has been recommended by Max M. Cuba, president of the Atlanta Jewish Community Council.
His recommendation was made on the basis of a report by a special committee headed by Samuel L. Eplan. The request for the erection of such a monument had come originally from the Workmen’s Circle here. Mr. Cuba’s recommendation is to be considered soon at a meeting of the Community Council.
The project, planned and discussed for years, will finally be fulfilled in a twofold manner. One part of the project deals with the erecting of a monument at the Jewish cemetery in Atlanta as “A Memorial to Six Million Martyrs,” to which the orphaned survivors of the martyrs, together with the Jewish community, will pilgrimage at least once each year, and observe their Yahrzeit by respective prayers. The second part of the project deals with the erecting of a public monument in honor of the “Unknown Jewish Martyr.”
