By one point, Australia’s Graham Mitchell became the first non-Israeli World Bible Champion in the third International Bible Quiz. He scored 45 out of a possible 50 points, edging out Israel’s Yomtov Krasniansky.

Finland’s Irja Immonen took third place with 38 and a half points. Joshua Singer of the United States, scored 11. Some 3, 000 persons packed the be flagged Convention Hall here and sat through until three o’clock in the morning for the contest, which opened with 20 contestants. Three identical questions were asked of the four finalists.

The audience included President Shazar, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, Justices, and members of the diplomatic court. The Israeli and Australian champions entered the final round with even scores. President Shazar awarded gold, silver and bronne medallions to the first, second and third place winners. Each presentation was accompanied by the playing of the national anthem of the winner’s country.
